Systems Thinking

Systems thinking is cohesion amongst the working parts of a broader system trying to accomplish a goal. The relationship between the numerous departments within the organizations will allow them to help each other operate at a much more efficient level, rather than if the organization adopted more of a silo mentality. The benefits of thinking more in terms of systems goes well beyond the workplace, systems thinking has led us to exploring our own being as humans on this planet, a planet which is all interconnected. There was a time when we believed that as humans we were intrinsically superior to the entities in which we share this planet with. With that mindset we saw ourselves as somewhat “Masters” of nature, and unfortunately, we behave(d?) accordingly.

AstraZeneca understands the sheer importance of system especially when it comes to healthcare. Healthcare systems throughout the world tend to become very complex when the time is taken to examine them. Healthcare systems are inherently complex due to the parts involved. A healthcare system is made up of the governments, patients, pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, clinics, Families, insurance companies, plus a few more depending where you are. Nonetheless AstraZeneca is heavy into collaboration and doing their part in an effort to push system wide changes that ensures that they can get quality healthcare for as much people as they can. AstraZeneca uses their global footprint to their advantage because they leverage it for reach and scale to team up with a multitude of organizations across the globe.  Such a wide reach allows them to get involved with and learn about smaller more local organizations in certain areas that may be overlooked. AstraZeneca works to find and mend those gaps in their infrastructure, all while trying to develop specific treatment for the people who need it most.
