Adopt-A-Park Community Service

I chose to participate in the Adopt-A-Park event for the community project. The purpose of Adopt-A-Park is to provide support and make sure our local parks are and stay in good condition. This event is a benefit for the community and also people can take action by volunteering and helping the community. In this case, the Adopt-A-Park took place in Union which consist of 36 parks and these parks are maintained and clean up by devoted volunteers throughout the year. The people that volunteer to this event are neighborhood groups, schools, and local businesses which I think it's great.

The event that I attended took place on March 24, 2019, at the Warinanco Park in Roselle. I went to this event with my class partner Daisy Roman, all of the volunteer students met at the Wilkins Theater bus stop at 9:15 in the morning and 15 minutes later we depart to the Warinanco Park. When we got there we saw a lot of trash on the ground and in the riverbank as well, I even saw alcohol bottles on the floor. The staff provided us with gloves, bags, trash picker and even with something to drink. They gave us black and white bags, for the black bag we were putting trash and leaves and for the white bag everything that could be recycled. The picture below shows what we did in the event, as you can see it shows how much trash we pick up around the riverbank which is a lot. There were so many plastic bags around and inside the water and it's causing the fish to die, which shows me that people don’t care at all about throwing trash on the ground and that we as a community have to take care and support the resources we have around us.

I had a wonderful experience doing this community service, honestly, I had never done this before. My first time doing this type of community service and it wasn't even where I live, but it helped me to think that we as a community have to do this more often with our community. Also, we have to think that all the bad things we are doing are damaging our planet and it's producing what we call “Global Warming”. I really loved this experience and we should take care of our planet and recycle more in order to make a change because we are and we can be the change.
